Fred Boatright - Class Of 1970

Fred Boatright passed away on May 24, 2011.  He died after a valiant year-long battle with an aggressive form of prostate cancer. He passed away peacefully at home with his loving wife by his side.

Fred graduated from UCSD with a degree in Biochemistry. He started his career at Scripps Institute of Oceanography, proceeded to Bendix/Allied Signal and ended in retirement from Delta Design as a software engineer.

He was an avid photographer, competitive bicycle racer, mountain biker, distance runner and cowboy action shooter.

Fred is survived by his wife, Karen; his father, Fred; his brother, Michael, of Fernandina Beach, FL; and many brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother, Sachiko.

Gregory Lawson (1971)

Fred and I were good friends our Freshman year in high school. He shared his avid love of photography and interesting films and equipment.

Bob Esch (1970)

Freddy taught me that good photography started with a good camera and lens; shoot "manual" and develop your own film.  Thanks, Freddy!  RIP
