Janie Carolyn Dunavant Mitchum, 52, of Annandale, Virginia, Army Intelligence specialist for the federal government, passed away on September 27 (Tuesday) of cancer at the Hospice of Northern Virginia in Arlington. She was born on March 4, 1942 in Columbia, South Carolina.
Services were held at 3 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church of McKenzie, Tennessee with burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
Mrs. Mitchum, the wife of Dwyer Ken Mitchum, also leaves two stepdaughters, Carrie Neal Bradfield of McKenzie and Cora Lee Goforth of Covington, Tennessee; a stepson, Mark Mitchum of Maryville, Tennessee; her mother, Grace Park of Friendship, Tennessee; a sister, Georgianne Dunavant Ratliff ('62) of Florida; a brother, Bob Underwood of Friendship, and six grandchildren. The family requested that any memorials be sent to the American Cancer Society.
