Ed Heinricks Case (Ed Case) (1962)
Sue was a blonde and blondes scared me. But with urging from my friend Darrell Coleman, I called her up and asked her to the prom. She said yes. I remember she was stunning in her gown.
Both she and her brother Larry were good people to know.
Yvonne Heinricks (Alexander) (1964)
Sue attended Zama only our freshman year, but she and I were so close that we corresponded for three years, and after graduation, I went to stay with her on the Monterey Peninsula in California. I couldn't find a job, so I set out for San Francisco and made my home there.
Sue began a career as a flight attendant for United Airlines around 1966. Her first assignment was Coral Gables, Florida. Sue and I stayed in touch, got married and each had a son and daughter about the same time. She married Jon Rand, Zama class of 1963. Her daughter is Tristan, her son Sean. She was my attendant at my wedding, and I was her attendant too.
We were close for about 20 years, and then our lives parted. She divorced Jon, moved to Florida to be near her mother, and re-married a dentist, for whom she had worked.
Sometime in the 80s my brother Ed told me about Sue's death. I don't know when she died, but I think it was in Florida, where she lived. Jon took the two children with him to California. (He had remarried.) I wanted to contact Jon to see how the children were doing, but I didn't feel I could handle the emotions. Now Jon too has passed.
Some day I will try to track down Sue's older brother, Larry Arnold, and find out details. My memories of Sue are some of the most precious I have. She had a wonderful sense of humor and a rare tenderness. But she lacked the inner strength to overcome her demons.
