James F. Davey

James Francis Davey, 78, of  No. Smithfield and Naples, FL, died Monday, June 29, 2009 in St. Antoine Residence, No. Smithfield. He was the husband of Marcia B. (Campbell) Davey.

Born in Central Falls, he was the son of the late John and Evelyn (Regan) Davey. 
Mr. Davey was a longtime educator in Woonsocket, retiring from the Vocational Facility in 1990.

He was an alumnus of Boston College, Providence College, Our Lady of Providence Seminary, St. Mary's University and St. Leo's School, Pawtucket.  He served with the Army's counter-intelligence Corps in Germany and later as a Latin and English teacher with the Department of Defense Dependant schools in Japan and Germany. He was a Little League coach in No. Smithfield, a genealogist and family historian and published three books containing his research.

Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, James Davey and his wife Lisa, grandchildren Katherine and Luke in New York City, a daughter, Lisa Davey Osborne and her husband Eugene, grandchildren Kasey and Brian in North Attleboro, MA, a brother, John Davey of Cape Cod, MA, and a sister, Maureen McGuinness of Lincoln.

His funeral was held Thursday, July 2, 2009 at 9am from the Holt Funeral Home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in St. John the Evangelist Church, Church St., No. Smithfield.

Mr Davey was my 8th grade English teacher.  I learned to write poetry from him.
