Born April 24, 1983, in Tacoma, Washington, Private First Class Gabriel Vince Yturria died on September 27, 2010. He was 27 years of age.
Gabriel was a graduate of ZAHS. A proud member of the 218th Military Police Detachment where he attained the rank of Sergeant, he served for six years including a one-year deployment to Afghanistan. He joined the Active Army in January 2010 and was serving an assignment at Fort Eustis, VA.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Yturria of Ft. Worth, TX; daughter, Christina Singletary; son, Nathaniel Yturria, both of Columbia, SC; mother and stepfather, Norma Gonzales Garza and Victor Garza of Ft. Worth, TX; father and stepmother, Sergeant Major Armando Yturria Jr. (Ret.) and Maria D. Yturria; sister, Harley Yturria, all of Columbia, SC; paternal grandmother, Francisca Yturria; maternal grandparents, Casciano Gonzales Jr. and Ernestina Gonzales, all of Corpus Christi, TX.
Funeral services for Gabriel were held at 10 a.m. Monday October 4, 2010, at St. John Neumann Catholic Church in Columbia, SC. Burial with full military rites followed in Ft. Jackson National Cemetery in Columbia at 12 noon. Rosary was Sunday, October 3, at 6 p.m. followed by visitation until 8 p.m. at Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel in Irmo, SC.
